Stone Veneer and Paver Work in Liverpool Village
In Liverpool village a stone veneer proposal is one of two completely different jobs, and the year your house was built decides which. The village's median construction year is 1938 or earlier, 6.1 percent of its units were built in 2020 or later, and none at all were built in the 2000s or the 2010s.

Liverpool has pre-1940 houses and 2020 houses, and little between
Liverpool has 1,344 housing units, a small pocket of very recent construction and almost nothing in between, so there is no average Liverpool wall. On one of the pre-1940 majority, adhered veneer is a retrofit question about the assembly you already have: where the water-resistive barrier is going to go, what carries the weight, and how water gets back out at the bottom. On one of the post-2020 units, the code detail should already be there and you can go and look at it. Crouch at the base of the wall and you should see a corrosion-resistant screed, minimum 26 gage with a 3 1/2 inch attachment flange, finishing at least 1 inch below the foundation plate line, with the barrier lapped down over the outside of that flange rather than tucked behind it. The clearances are just as checkable: 4 inches above earth, 2 inches above paved areas. If a planting bed later gets banked up against the bottom of the stone, that 4 inches is gone and the wall has been given a wick.

Masonry Cleaning and Sealing in Liverpool →Liverpool's build years, and the detail at the foot of a veneer wall

Liverpool village has 1,344 housing units and a median year of construction the Census reports as 1938 or earlier, the bottom of the published range. What new construction it has is very recent: 6.1 percent of its units were built in 2020 or later and none at all were built in the 2000s or the 2010s. Its total post-1980 share is 11.2 percent, the third lowest in the county.

Section R703.12.2 of the Residential Code of New York State, Flashing at Foundation, requires that for adhered masonry veneer on exterior stud walls a corrosion-resistant screed or flashing of a minimum 0.019 inch, or 26 gage, galvanized or plastic, with a minimum vertical attachment flange of 3 1/2 inches, shall be installed to extend a minimum of 1 inch below the foundation plate line.

Section R703.12.3 requires a water-resistive barrier behind adhered masonry veneer and states that the water-resistive barrier shall lap over the exterior of the attachment flange of the screed or flashing provided in accordance with Section R703.12.2. The lap direction is the whole point: the barrier over the flange carries water out of the wall, and the barrier behind the flange carries it in.
